I'm 45 years old and have a decent amount of hair. My thinning and recession has become more aggressive in the past few months and I have a prescription of propecia that I have been hesitant to take. My biggest fear is the shedding and overall thinning that may occur when starting. How realistic is the shed and is it possible to make my hair worse and not be able to recover it? Although I'm losing quite a bit, I'd be happy to keep what I have and possibly thicken it.
Answer: Propecia shedding? ENGLEWOOD Cliffs NJ In my opinion, it is possible for you to get some shedding when starting Propecia. This is not very common and occurs during the first 3 months. It generally resolves and the Hair regrows and thickens. I have found that when combining Propecia with platelet rich plasma, the incidence of hair shedding from either of the two agents diminishes. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Answer: Later onset hair loss It is not uncommon for men to start losing hair in their forties. If you have androgenic alopecia, it is important to realize that this is a progress problem and a long term treatment plan must be developed. If you are wary of Propecia, you may want to consider cellular therapy. Treatments such as PRP have been shown to be very helpful to slow hair loss and stimulate new growth.

Answer: Does propecia help with #hairloss? There are two products that are FDA approved to help with hairloss, propecia is one of those products. Before using any products you need to find the side effects. Usually you need to use it for a few months before seeing any results.

Answer: The drug finasteride Although shedding is reported with starting finasteride (Propecia) it is more the exception than the rule. The older you are, the less effective is the drug as a rule. Men in their 20s get great results from this drug, men in their 60s get less. You are somewhere in between. I generally find that this drug is also effective in men who have recent hair loss with miniaturization present on the examination. These men frequently get the drug to stop the hair loss and a few get some reversal of the hair loss. Get your doctor to use the HAIRCHECK system on your hair to measure the impact of the drug on your loss. It is always a good idea to get a real measurement done to see where this drug takes you.
