What should I do after ineffective IPL? (Photo)

Question

I did have 6 sessions of IPL to get rid of the brown spot on my face. I did see a slight change in size and color but nothing impressive. What should I do now. I want to get rid of the spot completely.

IPL is a great treatment for facial rejuvenation. For pigment that is unresponsive to IPL other treatments such as Q-switched lasers or ablative lasers can be tried. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

Hello and thank you for my concern. my assessment is limited to the quality of the photo, but it seems that your lesion is a macular seborrheic keratosis, which does not typically respond to IPL treatments. I would first encourage you to seek the evaluation of a board certified dermatologist, they can assess it and confirm what kind of brown spot it is and allow you to find a more appropriate laser for its removal if you so desire.

Thank you for the photo. It is best to have the spot evaluated in person by a board certified dermatologist to get an accurate diagnosis. If this is a sun spot (lentigo) or thin age spot (seborrheic keratosis), and IPL photo facials did not work, then the next step is to try laser treatment. I have used a Q switched 532 Yag laser with excellent success for isolated brown spots. I have also performed spot treatment with an Erbium laser successfully. The good news is that there are options. Best to you.

Thank you for your picture.  It would be helpful to know how long this spot has been present?  Is it the only one or do you have others surrounding it or on the other cheek too.  Depending on those answers, I suspect it is one of several dermal melanocytosis.  Since it has been unresponsive to IPL, you  should be treated with a Q-switch laser  as the pigment is deep in the dermis.  It is very frustrating to have spent the money and time on 6 sessions of IPL but seek out a qualified laser specialist or dermatologist to determine a plan of action.
