$ 2500 for a bone graft and a single tooth extraction?

Hello I went to see a periodontist in NJ and he told me it would be $ 2,500 for an single tooth extraction ( tooth # 10) and a bone graft. Isnt that a little too expensive? I thought both procedures would run me $ 700 .

Fees can vary quite a bit.  Hard to know exactly what kind of graft is needed, how difficult the extraction is and if anesthesia is included.  What I would suggest is to get a second opinion.

It certainly doesn't hurt to get multiple opinions. The fee varies from location to location, depending on many factors. Consult with an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon. If your general dentist referred you to the Periodontist, give him a call and see what he thinks. As a general dentist, who does very little surgery, I want to know what my patients that I refer are being charged and why.  The dentist obviously sets his fees according to what he thinks the procedure will cost him, difficulty, etc.

There is no single standard cost for bone grafts because costs vary based on a variety of factors or what you want to accomplish with the graft. For example, bone grafts for future implant placement may be more expensive than grafts placed to preserve dental ridge anatomy.

Fees vary greatly for these procedures.  The costs seems in the normal, reasonable range.  The type of augmentation can vary too.  The augmentation is very important and you do not want to compromise the end result.
