Is sleeping on your back necessary after cheek and temple filler? Worried side sleeper

I would like to get cheek and possibly temple filler for volume loss but am a side sleeper (right side). I literally cannot sleep on my back at all. Will sleeping on my side distort the filler or cause it to migrate? And if so how long would I need to sleep on my back for?

Hello, As a fellow side sleeper, I can reassure you that although it makes most sense to sleep on your back, sleeping on your side is not a "recipe for disaster" after fillers. For most patients, cheek and temple filler are placed very deep (near the bone), so it's unlikely that your head on a pillow will cause enough force to displace it. It may create uneven swelling in the first week, but it's unlikely to cause migration. That said, the person who is injecting you (and knows how deep they are going and how precise or generalized the volume is) will be the best resource. Personally I love Sculptra for these areas because you can build on it over time, and even massage of the filler won't cause displacement because it's a solution and not a gel.

While it's generally recommended to sleep on your back after receiving fillers to reduce the risk of putting pressure on the treated areas, it's understandable that not everyone can do so. Sleeping on your side could potentially cause the fillers to move or distort, especially in the first few days after treatment when they haven't fully settled.
The time it takes for fillers to settle can vary depending on the type of filler used and individual healing processes, but it's often suggested to try and sleep on your back for at least the first 3-5 days post-treatment.
However, it's important to discuss this concern with your healthcare provider. They can give you the most accurate advice based on the type of fillers you're getting and your personal circumstances. They may also be able to provide tips and suggestions on how to minimize the risk of filler displacement for side sleepers.
