Uneven nostrils after septoplasty from cast? (Photo)

Question

Once my cast and tape were put on, one nostril apprearwd to be trapped under it, holding the nostril up at a different angle/shape. Now that the cast is off, there's little dent in the tip. It's one month post op- the tip is still pretty lifted in my opinion- will this dent and unevenness from the bandages settle out as swelling goes down?

Thanks for the great question. This may improve a little more with time, but most likely you will need and additional procedure to get the two sides to match properly. With the incision you have on your columella, you may of had a septorhinoplasty in which case some of the nasal cartilage may have been modified. I recommend going back to discussing the asymmetry which is present with your surgeon to see what they recommend. Best of luck!~Dr. Sieber

Your pre op photograph clearly shows that you were had uneven nostrils. This could've resulted from either birth, trauma or a prior rhinoplasty. Your photographs reveal that you had a open rhinoplasty. Correcting the type of deformity that you had can sometimes be very challenging by using open rhinoplasty. This can occur when the overlying skin of the tip of the nose is separated from underlying deformed cartilage and skin, that creates even more asymmetrical contours. It is highly unlikely that the application of cast and tape would create the kind of deformities that are seen in your nose.
