I'm wondering if most women have lipo under their arms along with breast reduction and what are the pros/cons. I saw one surgeon who does it but the one I went with usually doesn't. I'm trying to decide what to do.

Answer: It depends Each breast reduction needs to be designed to fit the shape of each individual patient. Some women have a large skin fold that goes from the side of the breast, under the arm and even to the back. Sometimes it's fat. As the breast becomes smaller from a reduction, the fullness on the side appears larger if not treated. If it's skin, it needs to be removed as part of the breast reduction. If it's fat, it should be removed using liposuction. These are my opinions only.I sometimes see breast reductions and ask myself, "How could they have just left that?"We all do things a little differently. The advantage to removing undesired fat is obvious. For the patient, there is no advantage in leaving it. I suppose it leaves the next surgeon a potential case.Like I said, this is very individualized. We do what we can to help our patients.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
