Wound dehiscence: when can I stop being worried my wounds will separate?

I'm 2 weeks post breast reduction, at what point can I stop worrying about the incisions opening? The incisions on my left breast opened and are covered with slough now...right side was ok until I noticed a small pustule on incision today

Often you see wound issues within the first few weeks. After that, it is unlikely to occur unless an infection or hematoma develops.

Although there is no definitive "stop worry" timeframe,  I have found that once patients reach the 4 to 6 weeks post mark, the incidence of incision line separation or wound healing problems  is much diminished.   Keep in mind, that despite these incision line healing concerns, the vast majority of patients who have undergone breast reduction surgery are very pleased with their choice to proceed with the procedure. Best wishes for an outcome that you will be very pleased with long-term.

When I see it (18% of the time) it happens at about the 2-3 week mark. Almost never after 3-4 weeks do I see it.  Best of luck!

The wound dehiscence you're describing requires patience but the skin most always comes together just fine without further complications or infection.   Be sure to keep the area clean, dry and covered.  When the incision is well, paper tape along the incision is helpful with keeping the scar line flat and secure during the next phase of healing.  The small pustule you've noticed under the right breast could be a small internal stitch that never dissolved.  These usually work their way out without any problems.  Be sure to follow up with your surgeons advice and keep all post operative appointments.
