How long until the final size is determined? How much difference can I expect?

The time required for recovery following a breast reduction varies a good deal among patients. The inflammation and swelling normally take at least 6 weeks to reduce to a point that the breast starts to feel soft and natural.  Removing 450-475cc per breast is approximately two to two and a half cup sizes. Thank you for your question. It’s quite common for some residual swelling to linger for up to several months after a breast reduction surgery. At 8-weeks post-op, I would recommend holding off on making any final judgments about your breast size. Continue to use comfortable, supportive bras for now and check in with your plastic surgeon if you have any concerns about your results.

Congrats on getting a reduction!  It's a great surgery for symptom relief. 
I typically tell my patients that the majority of the swelling will resolve by 6-8 weeks.  But it takes 4-6 months for all the swelling to be gone and for the breasts to settle completely.  Having said that, given your preoperative size and the amount of reduction, you probably will end up closer to a DD than a C.

Swelling is still evident 8 weeks post-op, and you may start to see your final results within three to six months after your operation. I suggest that you wait until that time to see if you’ve gotten the results you wanted or if you need additional surgery to get your desired cup size.
For now, continue attending your follow-up checkups with your reputable and board-certified plastic surgeon.
