I have a mole/birthmark on the side bridge of my nose. I really hate it. It's affecting my emotional state. What can I do?

It's difficult to give you advice without actually seeing the mole but if you would be pretty without the mole then I am sure you are pretty with the mole.  If you are still in high school then you are relatively young and what you hate now you might not hate in a few years.  It sounds like you are under 18 and you would need a parents permission to have it removed.  Discuss it with your mother again and see if she would be willing to take you to a physician for advice.  Being a dermatologist, my bias is to see one of us but I am sure there are many cosmetic surgeons in your area who you could discuss this with.

Depending on their size and location, moles can be safely and easily removed by one of two methods: a shave excision or an excision with suture closure. A dermatologic surgeon typically does both procedures expertly and can decide which would be best for your particular mole. A shave excision is a procedure where the mole is actually "shaved off" at a level just below the surface of the skin. The other method is an excision with suture closure which uses both dissolving and non-dissolving sutures to give the best cosmetic result. All methods of surgery will leave a scar but the trick is to minimize the scar using the proper technique.
