How long does it take to heal from lip reduction?

I see a lot of before and after on a lot of doctors website. But none of them note the time frame (1 week after? 1 month after?). How long does it take until the patient is able to go back to work and look presentable? And how long until a reduction is seen?

Thanks for your question. The answer really depends on what you mean by recovered.  Most patients recover enough within a week to be seen in public, but the complete results can take up to 3-6 months.  Hope this helps you and best of luck!

Great question.  Truth is, it depends on how much contouring as well as for what reason the lip reduction is being performed.  If you simply have naturally more voluminous lips, then expect to be a little swelling by 1 week, with slow improvement up until 3 months.  If you have had permanent filler placed such as PMMA, biopolymer, silikon1000, etc - I find these patients initially swell a lot more as their body is reacting to surgery and product being removed.  It may take 2 weeks to be presentable to go to work.  That being said, by 3 months in those cases you are probably 80% of the way there and may take 4-6 months to reach full 100%.  I hope this helps!

Mimi86.    The procedure is done in the office, under local anesthesia, and it takes about one hour. Recovery is usually one week, as postop, the lips are quite swollen.  You should be able to return to work within one week, but your lips will be slightly swollen.   I use dissolveable sutures, and they are usuall gone in 7-10 days, but they are on the inside of your lips and cannot be seen. Early results are enjoyed within 2 weeks, but it takes approximately 3 months for 100% of swelling to subside. Seek out a board certified plastic surgeon with lots of experience with lip surgery, good luck!
