I had 3 sculptra injections with each spaced approximately 2 months apart. The first two injections were fine and I liked the result. It has been 2 months since the last injection and I do not like my result at all. It is really hard to smile because my cheeks feel so tight. Now when I try to smile my teeth barely show because of the tightness and puffiness of my cheeks. It almost looks like a joker smile. This has completely changed the way I look. Is there anything that can be done to correct?
Answer: Treating Scu;ptra Adverse Reactions--Not Easy, But Possible So, sorry that this has happened to you. My regular followers are aware that I gave up using Sculptra quite a few years ago already, when more robust HA fillers came on the scene. The advantage of Sculptra was that its results lasted a couple of years. Its disadvantages included that it was expensive, typically required about three treatment sessions to see the results and couldn't be dissolved easily, since there was no enzyme (as with natural hyaluronic acid fillers) to dissolve it. Once, the more robust HA fillers came on the scene that were less expensive, whose results were seen immediately after just one treatment and lasted in locations, such as the cheeks ,about 1.5 years, I could see no reason for continuing with Sculptra. Fortunately, I have had success in treating Sculptra complications using an algorithm of varying combinations, concentratins and amounts of intralesional injections of anti-inflammatory agents. You would be wise to consult with an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist filler expert. Best of luck.

Answer: Concerns about Unnatural Sculptra appearance I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Sculptra. It's important to address your concerns both for your comfort and aesthetic satisfaction. Here are some steps you can consider to potentially correct the issue: 1. **Consult with Your Injector**: The first and most crucial step is to go back to the healthcare provider who performed the injections. They need to assess the situation in person to understand the extent of the issue and to discuss possible solutions. 2. **Massage**: Sometimes, massaging the treated area can help redistribute the product and reduce tightness. However, this should only be done under the guidance of your injector to avoid any complications. 3. **Hyaluronidase**: Although Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) is not a hyaluronic acid-based filler, some practitioners have used hyaluronidase with mixed results to help break down the product if it has been over-injected or has caused issues. Discuss this option with a qualified professional. 4. **Time**: Sculptra works by stimulating collagen production, and this process can continue for several months. Sometimes, the tightness and puffiness may improve on their own as the collagen production stabilizes and the product integrates better with your tissues. 5. **Alternative Treatments**: In some cases, additional treatments such as microneedling or laser therapy might help improve the appearance of the treated areas by promoting more even collagen distribution. 6. **Seek a Second Opinion**: If your original provider is not able to offer a satisfactory solution, consider consulting another experienced injector or dermatologist. They might provide a different perspective or alternative treatment options. 7. **Non-Surgical Interventions**: Some patients have found relief with non-surgical interventions like radiofrequency treatments, which can help to remodel the collagen and potentially reduce the tightness and puffiness. Remember, it's important to have a thorough discussion with your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of any corrective procedures. They will be able to tailor a treatment plan based on your specific situation. If you experience any severe reactions, such as significant pain, redness, or signs of infection, seek medical attention immediately.

Answer: Sculptra looking unnatural - is there anything that can be done to correct it? Hi Jackie, Sorry to hear about your Sculptra injector experience. It is difficult to answer your questions without photos or knowing your age. It sounds like your injector has given you too much over too short of a time period. There may be some things that will help your appearance. Feel free to contact my office for an in person or virtual consultation. Good luck and be well. Michael Persky, MD Encino CA
