In general, particularly in skin of color where issues of dyspigmentation may occur from more aggressive treatments, superficial peels and professional microneedling may be used safely and effectively for reducing unwanted hyperpigmentation. Superficial peels include full strength glycolic acid or salicylic acid, Jessner's solution and low strengths of TCA. Professional microneedling accompanied by the application of topical prescription pigment lightening agents, such as tranexamic acid, may alternatively be used.
