CONTACT NOW Answer: Swelling and Bruising 2 months post-op Thank you for the picture and your question. It is relatively uncommon to have residual bruising after 2 months. Some swelling may still be present, depending on the type of eyelid surgery that you had and any other medical conditions (e.g., low thyroid). For the bruising, a laser that specifically treats the pigment in blood can be used to reduce the discoloration. The swelling may require steroid shots. In some cases, this is actually just part of your anatomy (festoons) and is not reliably treated with surgery. Medical management may help.

Answer: Bruising 2 mos. post-op You do have some bruising at 2 months which is unusual, but can occur. Those do not appear to be blood "bags". They are swelling of the malar fat pad on the cheek - called a festoon. In some patients this fat pad will swell quite a bit after surgery and can take a few months to go down. The bruising has just made it look dark. Talk to your surgeon to see if they have any lasers which can sometimes help speed up the bruising process. If they don't have any lasers, they should be able to recommend someone who does - either an IPL or pulsed dye.

Answer: Bruising 2 Months After Eyelid Surgery Although bruising generally resolves within 2 weeks after any facial procedure, it can last longer in some patients. Prolonged bruising can be associated with anticoagulants like coumadin, plavix, aspirin, ibuprofen (or any NSAID), vitamin E, green tea, or a previously undiagnosed mild coagulopathy. If you are taking any of these medications on a prescription basis, you might want to check with your Doctor for guidance. In rare cases, bruising can lead to hemosiderin deposition in selected areas which can take several months to resolve. As with all postoperative isseus, it is best to seek the help and reassurance of your Surgeon. Good luck!

Answer: 2 month post surgery bags It is difficult to tell from a photograph but these appear to be festoons (or cheek bags) which are due to fluid buildup in the area around the cheeks. See your doctor but lymphatic massage can be helpful in the early post op period as can a water pill in select patients. After several months, we find skin tightening procedures helpful. Specifically, ThermiRf smooth can help this condition and if severe, ThermiRf Tight may be helpful. Lasers can help but not in dark skinned patients as they may induce pigment problems. Seek out a second opinion from a specialist in this area if you are not satisfied with what you are hearing from your doctor. An oculoplastic surgeon who specializes in aesthetic treatments around the eyes may help offer some solutions. Best of luck!
