Repairing a crown with missing enamel: Possible just to repair the enamel instead of replacing the crown?

I have a 45 year old crown on an upper tooth. I think it is #28 on a dental chart. It has recently lost a piece of the enamel that is visible from the front. It was well done it appears, since it has survived so long and continues to be really stable. Is it possible to just have the enamel repaired? My insurance does not cover crowns and since the work seems to be very good I am reluctant to have the whole crown replaced.

Hi, The lab usually keeps the models about 7 to 10 days or how ever long it takes them to make the crowns or other dental work. Its then returned to your dentist with the finished product and from there we discard the models.

If a piece of tooth broke in your moutt then it would be wise to call your dentist.  I am not certain why that tooth was not crowned after the root canal, but it should be now before the tooth fractures further.  Good luck.

You really should not have any restrictions with your gold crown.  You should always stay away from extremely hard things such as ice cubes and "rock candy" on all of your teeth to avoid chipping or breaking them, but otherwise you should be ok.  Hope this helps.
