Is my overjet causing my mouth to protrude? What can be done to fix it? (photo)

Don't say chin implant please. Why are my lips protruding? Can this be the cause of an overjet because my front teeth protrude too much? If I get it fixed can my mouth go back to normal? I currently have Invisalign on. Will it along with elastics treat my overjet and protruding lips?

It's difficult to say for sure what could be the cause for your overjet (where your upper jaw protrudes out over your lower jaw), but we would recommend you to see an experienced orthodontist to get all your treatment options in correcting this. Overjet is a skeletal issue that can be fixed with orthodontics (braces) and likely in conjunction with orthognathic surgery.  Invisalign alone may not fully correct your overjet concern, but seek the advise of an orthodontist before looking into pastic surgery options.  We hope this helps and we wish you all the best!

Overjet correction can do wonders for a persons appearance, but there are several ways to do this including orthodontics or maxillofacial surgery.  Having a good consult with a reputable orthodintist and maxillofacial surgeon having them explore with you all the possibilities and their associated costs, benefits and risks will help you make an educated decision which way you may want to proceed. Make sure who you go to a dentist that has specialistt in these areas to get better results.Good luck!

Hi Chubbycheeksguy1,Without more photos it is difficult to diagnose the problem. Sometimes it is because the top teeth or even the jaw holding the teeth there is too far forward, and sometimes it is because the bottom teeth, or the jaw holding the bottom teeth is too far back. A complete dental exam with an experienced provider should be able to give you the dental options available to address your concern!Good luck!
