Can microdermabrasion be done on skin which currently has a bit of acne and is taking photosensitive medication?

Thanks for you question.Whilst your still on medication, i would not recommend a microdermabrasion treatment as it will over sensitise the area. Also depending on how aggresive your acne is at the moment you run the risk of spreading it further. It sounds like your skin needs some protection and strengthening. I would recommend an Environ Ionzyme active vitamin facial. 

Microdermabrasion works best in a series of treatments spaced every two weeks or as a monthly maintenance procedure.  The gentle exfoliation helps improve the appearance of the hyper pigmentation from the acne as well as decrease the amount of acne break outs overall.  If your skin is sensitive you are still a good candidate for microdermabrasion as well as a light chemical peel like a glycolic or even Vitalize peels by Skin Medica.At our practice we would have you on a light Retinol every night or every other night to help with your acne breakouts and a good cleanser like AHA/BHA Cleanser and Cream.  Lytera is another option for a good home care for brown spots.Hope this helps.  Good luck.
