Lefort I for improved facial appearance and better smile? (Photo)

Question

I have always hated my smile because when I smile, the tissues around my mouth scrunch up and create an ugly, chubby smile and makes my face appear round. I know this may take more than one procedure to resolve. Would lowering and advancing my maxilla through lefort I help shape my smile into an aesthetic smile such as this actor?

Hello, Thanks for your question . A Lefort I surgical correction is a procedure were the maxilla ( upper jaw ) will be de-attached from the facial skeleton at a certain level on the face. I think that it might be an overkill for what you would like to achieve. I strongly recommend an appointment first with an Orthodontist for a detail evaluation of your options and also he can refer you to a Maxillo-facial surgeon which can also orient you and explain in detail what a Lefort I will involve , at that point you can make a more informed decision.Best of luck!!

hi,i am almost certain you do not need a lefort 1 procedure or any orthognathic surgery. I would need to see more photos but from the two you sent the only improvement i could recommend (and this is really trying hard to find something to improve) would be to reduce the "black triangle" visible at the corners of your mouth owing to either a wide smile (nothing wrong with that) or a narrow maxilla (hopefully correctable with orthodontics rather than surgery). if you were my patient i would advise you against any procedure other than orthodontics. best of luck....julian
