How many days after crown placement is pain normal? I'm 6 days post op.

Hi:If there is pain upon biting, you should go back to your dentist to recheck the bite in different jaw movements and make sure there is no clenching or grinding pressure on the crown.  This can also effect the hot and cold sensitivity.Best,Dr. Maddahi

Your symptoms are not normal. It is possible to have some sensitivity after a crown is placed for a period of time depending on why the crown was originally done. If your tooth was cracked you may need a root canal in addition to the crown. I suggest visiting your dentist to discuss your problems. 

There are dozens of possible reasons for post-op sensitivity after crown placement.  The most common is irritation of the nerve from the adhesive and cement used to secure the crown.  In many cases, the sensitivity will subside over the next few weeks and go away.  In other cases, the irritation to the nerve may be "irreversible" and a root canal may be needed.  It's important to follow up with your dentist.  He/she may be able to adjust the bite or advise on the likely cause of your pain.
