Are my crowns poorly contoured/too thick? (Photo)

Question

Just got two front crowns replaced and my gums are not reacting well, they're very swollen. The cosmetic dentist sent me to a Periodontist who said I need crown lengthening but I think from the xrays it looks like the crowns are poorly shaped and do not fit my teeth well. Aren't they supposed to follow the tooth contour and not stick out like that?? This was done by a highly-respected cosmetic dentist with high fees who does not accept insurance so I expected better quality... Can I ask him to re-do them?

It's difficult to diagnose your problem without more information and pictures. Crown lengthening is usually done before the crowns are fabricated because healing is less predictable once the crowns are in place. If you have concerns it is always possible to get a second opinion.
