Can Creatine affect hair growth after hair transplant surgery?

Question

It's been 7 months since my second hair transplant surgery and I can see results, however, i read on an article that creatine increases DHT hormone in your blood which leads to hair loss, I've been taking creatine for a month now (only 5g a day) because i go to the gym 5-6 times a week, and i want to know if it's going to affect growth or anything? Should i stop taking it? Plus i wear hats all the time but not tight so does that affect too?

Thank you for your question.  I would recommend discussing your creatine use with your hair restoration surgeon directly.  It is possible that creatine and some of the additives in these compounded powders can cause hair loss of those hairs that have the potential to be impacted by hormonal changes.  It would be worthwhile to follow up with your surgeon and bring the creatine that you are and have been taking with you to this visit.  Wearing a hat at this point should not impact your results, please remember that full hair growth following your hair transplant surgery will take 9-12 months.  I hope that you find this helpful.  All the best.

It is best to ask your surgeon about post operative care as each doctor has their unique regimen.   Creatine itself does not cause hair loss.

After having had 2 hair transplants I don't think I would chance it when it comes to creatine.  It has been theorized that your native hair (that you have left which are hormone sensitive) may be susceptible to indirect effects of the creatine on the enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT.  Weaing a lose fitting hat is fine.

Creatine is a protein powder and by itself, will not cause hair loss; however, some compounds of Creatine have steroids put into them and this will cause hair loss impacting the genetic sensitive hairs that you have on your head. Be sure to read the label which lists contents
