I had a sclerotherapy done 6 weeks ago. Right after the procedure the veins were gone. But about a week later they appeared again. Is this normal? do they disappear and then Reappear as they fade? Or was this due to me NOT wearing my compression stockings. I only wore them a clouple of times about a week after I had the sclerotherapy.

Following sclerotherapy of leg veins, it is important to apply compression.  The issue is how long to wear the compression. When I first started doing sclerotherapy 18 years ago I recommended wearing support hose for 6 weeks and the compliance by patients was essentially zero.  Over the years I have gradually reduced the time of wearing support hose post sclerotherapy.  Now I recommend compression for only 48 hours and the response to sclerotherapy is still excellent.  I am certain that this has to do with the better sclerosing solutions now available.  Your legs have actually had some improvement following your first treatment and you need to realize that sclerotherapy is a process and may take several sessions.

There is no debate that compression is absolutely necessary after sclerotherapy. I could write 20 pages and tell you 100 ways doctors recommend wearing stockings after sclerotherapy. I really depends where they practice as warm temperatures preclude patients from being compliant with wearing stockings. I recommend my patients to wear stockings for 3 months after sclerotherapy and 24 hours a day 7 days a week in the first two weeks after sclerotherapy.My colleagues in California recommend 2 weeks.
