Is the Emsculpt procedure known by a different name? I've tried Googling "Emsculpt" and only see realself.com in my results.

The reason that you are finding most of your information about Emsculpt from BTL on RealSelf is that it is a new technology that was only recently released.  Physicians are just now receiving their devices from the company and will be offering this service in your area very soon.  Emsculpt from BTL is the first non surgical body contouring device to utilize HIFEM or high intensity focused electromagnetic energy to not only increase muscle mass of the abdomen or buttocks, but also reduce fat in these areas as well with four, thirty-minute sessions over the course of two consecutive weeks.  This is achieved by causing supramaximal muscle contractions equivalent to 20,000 abdominal crunches or squats in one session.  Additional information on Emsculpt can be found on emsculpt.com.

Thank you for your question and for inquiring about this exciting new technology.EmSculpt uses HIFEM (High Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic) fields to cause intense contractions of the target muscle.  The muscle contractions caused by EmSculpt is so intense that we cannot replicate this with voluntary contractions if we tried.  These contractions are called 'supramaximal' contractions.  Over a course of 30 minutes, the patient experiences over 20,000 such contractions, i.e. a very intense workout.  EmSculpt can be used to help build abdominal muscles, but also has the secondary benefit of reducing fat in those areas.  The intense muscular workout releases free fatty acids (FFA) and when the concentration of FFA increases, it becomes toxic to the surrounding fat cells.  Studies have shown that the fatty tissue layer can be reduced by up to 19% with four treatment sessions.  In addition, your muscle grows in stature by 16%.  This is the first device that builds muscle and reduces fat.   Another popular treatment area is the buttock.  By firming and building the gluteus muscles, you can get a non-surgical buttock lift.  A different pulse sequence is used for the buttock to minimize any fat reduction, and it the buttock fat in general is more resistant to the effects of excess FFA.  In addition, many women want to exercise their gluteus muscles but are concerned how squats may impact the girth of their thighs.  EmSculpt enables a focused intense workout of the gluteus muscles.To learn more, I would visit with an EmSculpt provider that also specializes in other body contouring modalities, both surgical and nonsurgical. EmSculpt is a recently released device which provides muscle toning via high frequency electromagnetic stimulation. It is being employed for abdominal and gluteal toning. Patients will undergo 4-6 treatments over 2-3 weeks (depending upon the area treated). Thank you for asking this question about Emsculpt.  In short no, Emsculpt is Emsculpt!  However it is a relatively new treatment and so that may explain why there is limited information available about it.   Emsculpt is the only procedure available to help women as well as men to build muscle and sculpt their body.  Emsculpt is the first FDA cleared energy device that is approved to burn fat and build muscle mass.  I hope that this has clarified any confusion about the name of Emsculpt.  Kind regards, Dr Haus, London.

Emsculpt is a newer technology utilizing high intensity focused electromagnetic energy to create contractions that are higher in amplitude then anything created voluntarily.  There is data on 7 different studies that have been completed and written publications on 2 of the studies thus far...more to come I am sure. My favorite type of patient is the lower BMI patient that has a little subcutaneous fat, but is in fairly good shape, but wants to really tone and lean up.  This device works exceptionally well in that population.  If visceral fat is present, I ask for my patients to first modify the diet and minimize the visceral fat (fat that is around the organs), then to come back after that time for Emsculpt.  Patients that do work out, will continue to keep the muscular improvement longer.... To date, it appears to be holding out at least until 6 months, from a muscular standpoint and perhaps longer.  The lipolysis and fat cell reduction appears to be more permanent.  Hope that helps.
