I am of south Asian heritage with black hair and fair skin. Until now I had had 8 sessions of YAG laser 8 weeks apart on my full body . As you can imagine up to now I have spent a lot of money laser. I was advised 12 sessions was the maximum I needed however my hair is still growing back but not as thick. I want to try another laser one that actually works ..what would you recommend as you hear only certain lasers work on certain skin tones. I have heard that the Soprano laser is quiet good.
Answer: Laser Hair Removal Facts--takes a series of treatments Diode, alexandrite and yag lasers work best for hair removal. I typically have patients do every 4 weeks for the first 3 times and then every 4-6 weeks for 3 times after. It will take a series of treatments and some people need treatments to maintain. See an expert in laser hair removal for best results. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Laser Hair Removal Depends on Wavelength and Settings The brand of laser is not the only factor in determining the success of laser hair removal. Laser hair removal is something that requires an experienced technician most importantly. I have seen consistent results with Alex, Diode and Yag lasers (755, 810and 1064 nm respectively). Selecting the correct wavelength and energy (or fluence) depends on several factors. The quality (ie coarse or thin), color of hair, skin color of the patient and bronzing/tanning of the skin are all considerations. If a response is not seen with a particular wavelength, it may be because the energy is not high enough. That being said, caution and experience is required when increasing the energy of the laser.

Answer: Choose Laser Over IPL for LHR Thanks for your question. Not all LHR devices or providers are the same. Much of your LHR results are dependent on the maintenance of the laser and competency of the technician. To be safe, you should seek out a laser vs. IPL to help avoid complications. Almost all newer lasers are safe for all skin types and have features built in (such as sapphire cooling tips) to make them more comfortable. Some of the newer technology is also more efficient, allowing for lower energy settings to be used with better results and less discomfort. With modern equipment, your treatment should only be mildly uncomfortable, but not painful. We never use numbing cream for LHR. We want our patients to be able to tell us if they feel pain or an unusual level of discomfort. We recommend finding an experienced and reputable provider in your area with updated equipment. A consistent overlapping technique is the key to avoiding patchiness in LHR. Calibration and power of the laser is important for a safe, comfortable and effective treatment. Find out what laser they will use and if it is under a maintenance contract. If their laser isn’t calibrated on a regular basis or is underpowered, your treatment may be painful or inefficient. After a series of 6-8 initial treatments, you may need a touch up every 3-5 years. I hope this helps.
