Do joules matter? Doubting my move.

Question

Skin type 4 and getting a black ink tat removed from inner forearm. First tx was w/ Quanta Q+C @ 5mm spot size-2.5j, 2nd tx same machine-3.4j. Was getting decent results, but research led me to switch providers because I found a facility w/ Piqo4. Found they started me on ns-1.5j, 10mm spot size. Is this kosher? I'm not an expert, but it seems superfluous to start at less than 2j when I was at 3.4j. I mainly chose this machine because I wanted to be treated w/ pico speed. Now I feel set back.

Thank you for your question in regards to laser tattoo removal. It is important to start laser tattoo removal treatments at a lower energy setting to determine how your skin will react. Blistering and pigmentation issues can develop if settings are too high during the first sessions. As long as the reaction of "icing" occurs, treatments will be beneficial. To be sure what is best for you, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

Laser settings are different for different devices and you cannot compare one laser Company to another. Come in for a consult and see an expert. Sometimes pico isn't as good as standard q switch. Best, Dr. Emer

It is important to start with lower fluence on the first treatment to assure and safe and effective treatment.  If too much fluence is used it may blister, scab and scar.  If too little fluence is used, the treatment may not be effective, but it will be safer.
