Can fat transfer reduce cellulite or dimples?

Fat transfer works well for the treatment of cellulite, if the cellulite is released either by laser (cellulaze) or manually (sharp cannula or needle subcision).  I suggest seeking the advice of someone very experienced in this type of treatment, to ensure you get the best results.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Dimples can be raised with fat transfer. Cellulite will not be able to be corrected with fat transfer. Consult with 3 experienced and expert board certified plastic surgeons to understand your options.

The release of cellulite attachments and the placement of fat injections has a long history of attempts at improving the outer appearance of the skin. While it initially looks quite good, long-term results are often disappointing with a return to a cellulite appearance.

Fat transfers do not improve cellulite or dimpling to any great extent.  Dimples sometimes can be improved by fill, but the cellulite is caused by connections to the underlying soft tissue.  

What is generally referred to as cellulite is overstuffing of the spaces under the skin with fat. The skin is held to the underlying muscle covering by what are called septa. If the spaces between the septa are filled with fat, the skin bulges between the septa. Adding fat only makes this process worse. Generally, what one needs to do is lose weight to correct cellulite. Dimples, on the other hand, can be elevated using fat grafting. You need to determine what you have and, therefore, what you need. If you cannot, see a plastic surgeon with experience in fat grafting to see if you are a candidate for anything or not.

Thanks for excellent question.  Fat transfer has been a good technique to help with dimples and contour depressions in our practice for last 10 years. More recently,  especially if combined with VASER lipo selection techniques. We routinely do this in our Brazilian Buttock lifts/augmentations.  Unfortunately, our experience with cellulite is not so responsive. Sometimes we think it helps only a small bit, sometimes not.  Hope this helps, Best wishes.
