I went to nubody concepts to get aqualipo but the doctor toll me that it would not help because I have loose skin he said I'm perfect for the awake tummy tuck (avelar tummy tuck).isthe avelar tummy tuck safe would it give me the same results as a regular tummy tuck

The Avelar Tummy Tuck is performed while you are fully awake. Local anesthetic is used to numb your skin and fat prior to liposuction, then the excess skin is removed. Infusion of the anesthetic is not entirely pain free. It is quite uncomfortable but relatively safe. Care must be taken not to cause Lidocaine toxicity. Muscle repair cannot be performed using this technique. Infusion alone cannot numb the underlying muscles. A physical exam is needed to determine if muscle repair is needed for best results. Please know that after childbirth most women's tissues are stretched/damaged so repair is needed. If you are having problems with weight control (also as a result of childbearing) a TT with mesh is also an option. Mesh acts as an internal girdle that promotes early satiety and improves long term results by keeping your tummy flat. A picture would tell the story.  An Avelar tummy tuck uses liposuction to decrease the thickness of the abdominal skin/fat then the excess skin is gathered and removed.  I would not recommend this treatment.  You may need a full tummy tuck or lipoadominoplasty (liposuction, muscle repair and excess skin removal).

I would certainly seek out the opinion of a board certified plastic surgeon.  Do not trust your surgery to a physician who is not adequately trained in the art and science of plastic surgery.  Demand truth in medical education, question the physician's surgical training and board certification. Please do your homework before choosing your doctor, especially a surgeon.  I recommend speaking with a board certified plastic surgeon prior to having any cosmetic surgery.A full tummy tuck is a very large procedure that should be performed under general anesthesia for your comfort and to allow the surgeon to give you an optimal outcome.  There are plenty of highly qualified board certified plastic surgeons in the Nashville area. Avelar tummy tuck is somewhat a branding sort of procedure that is typically associated with people that are not plastic surgeons. Now this is not always the case of course, but the real concern for who you saw is the "awake" tummy tuck, as this is not typical. This is usually another sign that they may not be actual plastic surgeons, as they cant get privileges at surgery centers to do these operations, so offer an awake version instead. I would be diligent in finding out what their actual credentials are, and of course seek a second opinion or two from a real plastic surgeon. Best of luck.

An Avelar tummy tuck is a mini tummy tuck that involves removing a portion of the lower abdominal skin and liposuction of the abdomen as a whole. It will not give you the same result as a regular abdominoplasty. I have been doing this type of surgery for 35 years and I have rarely found anyone who is a really good candidate for a mini tummy tuck like the Avelar Tummy Tuck. Also, the amount of liposuction and surgery necessary to achieve a really good result even with a mini procedure places the procedure in a high risk category such that I would make sure that the facility is fully accredited for anesthesia and that you will be fully monitored. Even then, most people will do best with general anesthesia.

Beware of gimmicks, of which there are many out there.  A board certified plastic surgeon has the ability to tailor the operation for what the patient needs. Non plastic surgeons have more limited tools at their disposal, and sometimes try to force the patient into a method that they are able to perform, whether or not it is the best method for that patient. Seek the opinion of a board certified plastic surgeon, and look them up on the American Board of Plastic Surgery database, because many doctors may call themselves plastic surgeons, who aren't.
