Pictures would be great, but based on your description, I can make a limited diagnosis that you likely would benefit from porcelain veneers. With veneers, you can choose your tooth color and shade. Veneers are extremely resistant to stains. You can expect them to last 20-30 years before needing to have them redone. I would recommend this as an option to someone like you. Good luck and I hope this helps. Follow me if you have more questions.Sarah Thompson, DMD
Hi Sarah...I am so sorry that the dentist just gave you such a direct statement that your teeth can never be white again! That is a little harsh. If they are very dark and stained, I would first try a whitening system called Kor Whitening. You will do in office and take home trays. It is gets the hardest stained teeth white. It is a deep bleaching system made for this and we have been very successful with older patients that have very stained dark teeth. I would try this method to achieve whiter teeth first. If this does not work then I would look at veneering your teeth and of course this will achieve whiter teeth. It is an expensive process and you will have your natural teeth reduced to accommodate the veneers, but you will have much whiter teeth. I would go the whitening route first if you are happy with the shaped or your teeth but not the color. Take good care!
There should be a solution. Zoom whitening will not work on dark or stained teeth while KoR Deep Bleaching should be able to do the trick. Little to no sensitivity , specially designed for dark or stained teeth. May be a great option for you. Check out more at deepbleaching.com.
Very brown teeth usually do not bleach well. If bleaching does not meet your expectations then porcelain veneers are a great alternative. With porcelain veneers you can cover dark brown or stained teeth and also improve shape and correct any crooked teeth at the same time.
Relax, there is a solution for you, but which one you choose depends on how dark your teeth are and how whiter you want them to be.A blanket statement that your teeth can never be white again is unfounded.First, try teeth bleaching, either the take home tray bleaching or the in office Zoom bleaching. This is a great way to whiten teeth that aren't too dark.If they are dark, or if the whitening doesn't achieve your goals, then you should seek an experienced cosmetic dentist and discuss either direct composite veneers or porcelain veneers.Check out the web link below that shows how teeth are whitened with veneers.
Dear Sarah,It sounds like your teeth used to be whiter, but may have turned darker for some reason. Maybe your teeth got stained from coffee, tea, smoking, or another reason. My first option would always be to try the most conservative method. Zoom in-office teeth whitening is a safe way to whiten your teeth. If teeth turned darker due to stains then the in-office whitening should remove those stains. If that doesn't work the only option left would be to veneer your teeth to a whiter color. Good Luck!
Hello there,After reviewing your question I would say, just get the veneers. The resin bonding is only temporary and will set you back hundreds of dollars. Why waste that money, when you can use it towards a more permanent fix like veneers. Of course you loose some natural...
Sensitivity is a normal side effect of teeth whitening. Whitening products like carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide work by penetrating the enamel surface to get to the discolored molecules. Your teeth are likely to be sensitive while using any whitening products and for a time...
Unfortunately your tooth is no longer alive and is not going to respond to whitening the same way other teeth. The best option is to try internal bleaching to lighten the tooth from the inside-out (non-vital teeth almost always darken.) The standard of care to protect long-term function and...
