Can my earlobe be reconstructed? (photo)

My earlobe split last year around August...just getting around to getting it repaired...I don't like how this look...getting both my earlobes repaired so they will be similar the other one isn't torn just has a bigger hole... Found a plastic surgery that will do them both for $600 I think that a good price..

Earlobe repair is a very common procedure. Frequently, we have patients who will have the procedure done the same day as the consultation. Typically, the cost is between $450-850 per earlobe, depending on the severity and the length of the procedure. The length of time the ears have been gauged should have no effect on the procedure. As long as the tissue is no longer irritated or inflamed, there is no reason not to give it a try. Gauged ears are sometimes more difficult than some other earlobe repairs since the tissue is so over stretched, but we are still able to create a natural looking earlobe. You can get your ear re pierced about 6 weeks after and should be included in the pricing.

simple answer is yes, it can be repaired and reconstructed with a simple procedure under local anesthesia, surgery for this usually teas less than one hour. at the end it might not match the other side completely, but it will look much better.

MsMagic: Yes, the appearance can be significantly improved.  It may not be possible to get it to mach exactly the other earlobe, but slight asymmetry is okay in earlobes because they are relatively far apart and harder to compare than say the upper eyelids or nostrils.  You have darker skin so need to beware of developing abnormal scar tissue, called keloids, after the earlobe repair. If you have any history of keloid formation anywhere on your body, you should have steroid (kenalog) injected at the time of the earlobe repair and every few weeks afterwards to help prevent keloid formation. Your torn earlobe can definitely be repaired.  Your new earlobe contour will be greatly improved compared to its present shape. This is an office based procedure that will be performed using a local anesthetic. The procedure itself is not very painful at all, and sutures are usually removed after seven days.
