My arm is tingling after breast augmentation surgery. Is this normal?

I had breast augmentation surgery 5 days ago. Last night I was putting my tennis shoes on and pulled something under my right arm and the side if my right breast. This morning I noticed bruising and now my arm is tingling. Is this normal???

I would recommend seeing your PS for a followup. The bruising may be a hematoma that should be checked out.

If you reached down and felt an uncomfortable sensation and then developed bruising and tingling I would definitely see your plastic surgeon. You may have injured a structure internally  that may jeopardize or complicate your recovery. Good luck.Earl Stephenson Jr MD DDS FACS

This may be just a stretching of a sensory nerve but if it feels unusual to you contact your plastic surgeon as soon as possible for his advice.

Without photos, it's hard to answer your questions.  Assuming the bruise is small and not enlarging, what you describe sounds normal.  If the right breast is getting larger, this could be a sign of internal bleeding.  If that's the case, you should contact your surgeon ASAP.

The symptoms you describe are consistent with a breast augmentaion as the swelling and dissection up toward your armpit could cause a little irritation of the nerves. This should resolve over time. The bruising is probably normal as well, but if there is a lump, or if its painful; you need to check in with your surgeon. If no hematoma, all should resolve shortlyEric Weiss MD
