Why does my nose look slimmer after taping? 6 months post op

Question

Hello, I had open rhinoplasty on my nose 6 months ago. I still tape every night and leave it on whilst I sleep. When I wake up in the morning and remove the tape, my nose looks very slim and I like it. But after maybe a few hours the slimming goes away. My question - why does my nose look slimmer after taping - is this (I sure hope so!) a sign of what my nose will look like when it is completely healed? Thank you.

Everyone's nose is still swollen 6 months after rhinoplasty surgery. If you are taping your nasal skin before going to sleep, it is essentially squeezing the swelling out of your nose and this may be resulting in a less swollen morning nasal appearance. Although we do not recommend nasal taping for any of our post rhinoplasty patients, this is probably a good sign. Feel free to re-ask your question with photographs. I hope this helps! Taping outs pressure on the nose to thin it out. Sometimes the maximum thinning is not complete for up to three years. Continue to tape at night and be patient

Hello! Thank you for your question.As far as I can understand from your question your nose might be still swollen and when you tape it you pressure the swelling. After taping swelling coming back. If you can provide photos from front of your face, from the side of your face and 1 meter away I would be able to make a proper evaluation. Effect of taping the nose six months post op: after rhinoplasty there is some swelling which can vary with position, salt intake, menstrual cycle, etc. If the nose is taped tightly overnight, it may squeeze away some of that swelling. After removing the tape the swelling may return. Ultimately, at about the one year time  period, the nose will have less of that intermittent swelling and probably look more like it does after you’ve taped it.

the tape is no longer useful. You will probably lose a little more weight over the next year due to the natural adaptation of the skin.
