Is a corticosteroid nasal spray safe to use prior to rhinoplasty?

I have a rhinoplasty scheduled in 6 months and I would like to take a nasal spray with Fluticasone Propionate to relieve suspected allergies. The medication indicates you can use it longer than a month, and I'm curious if it is okay to take this for as long as needed prior to rhinoplasty? Thank you

Great question and every surgeon has somewhat varying opinions on exactly when to stop steroid nasal sprays prior to surgery. Typically, I recommend stopping these 1 month prior to surgery to avoid nasal dryness and bleeding during and after surgery. Flonase can be taken daily for years without any systemic side effects so continuous use is reasonable for treatment of allergies otherwise.
