I recently had laser hair removal done on my underarms and was thinking of getting it done full Brazilian, but my underarms have taken 7 sessions and I still am having some hair regrowth. Is this normal? I was always under the impression that hair removal took almost always only 6 sessions. I am just nervous to start a Brazilian and not be able to afford to finish it if I have to keep buying more and more sessions.

Answer: Hair Removal with an Icon MaxR We use the same laser in our office and we sell the treatments in packages of 6 to make it more affordable and some people will get reduction in some areas in 6 treatments, but the recommendation is 12 treatments. Darker skin types need lower settings which will take more treatments. Lighter or finer hairs will require more treatments for the laser to catch all the hairs. The ideal candidate has very light skin and very thick, coarse, dark hairs and those will respond the quickest. Without knowing your skin type and hair color/density and thickness, I don't know if you fall into the small group that needs fewer treatments. The nice thing about this laser is it has a Skintel tester that checks your skins pigment and picks the ideal settings for the best/ideal settings for a safe treatment for you that day. Hope this helps.

Answer: Difficult to Predict Yes, it is normal. It certainly is a reasonable question to ask "how many treatments will I need?" Unfortunately, it is never possible to give an exact answer. The variables include the type of hair you have, where on the body are you being treated and the type of laser possibly. Only the hair follicles that are in the growth phase of the cell cycle are susceptible to being eliminated by the treatment. A small percentage of hair follicles at any given time are in the growth phase. 6 sessions is what I usually recommend as a starter package for my patients. I make sure they understand that they may need more.
