Is my mole infected? (Photo)

Question

I just got a mole removed on my left thigh because it was always getting inflamed and irritated from my jeans. The doctor just lanced it off then used silver nitrate to stop it from bleeding. They told me to keep it moist with petroleum jelly and keep a bandaid on it for 2 weeks which I did but now that it’s been 2 days since the bandaid is off and it looks infected to me and I don’t know what I should do or if it’s even normal.

It is best that you follow up with your doctor as the area shows irritation around the removal site. Your doctor should be able to test for possible bacterial infection and treat it if so. They will be able to let you know if this is healing according to their standards. Remember mole removals can take up to 4 weeks to fully heal, so be reassured it can take time to fully close.

Thank you for your question and photograph. Wounds after biopsies can take a few weeks to heal, but I highly recommend you consult with your physician that performed the procedure to evaluate the area and provide treatment if needed. Take care and good luck.
