I called my surgeon's office today and sent in photos but I was worried and went to the E.R. My white blood cell count was 10.6 and the nurse said that wasn't high I do not have a fever but I have a cold that I've had for about a week now and that's about as long as I've noticed a change in my breast. I noticed white puss near the nipple so drained it and around when the drainage site it turned slight pink and warm. Is it possible that my implant will not need removal?

best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation.  Based on
your photographs, it is difficult to determine if there is an infection.  I recommend maintaining close follow-up with your surgeon and having an in-person evaluation today.

The question of whether or not an implant will need to be removed is contingent upon the depth of the infection. A superficial infection which has not reached the implant can be treated with antibiotics. If the infection has reached the implant, explant will be necessary.Your narrative is very concerning (redness, drainage, malaise) for underlying implant infection. I would recommend seeing your board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS) as soon as possible.

Based on the picture you are sending it does not appear that your implant would need to be removed.  Since you just had surgery though you really need to stay in close communication with your surgeon who should be able to walk you through appropriate expectations.  Best of luck to you
