2 1/2 months in still “purging” how long will it take until I see improvement! I’m having doubts if accutane works for me.

Accutane is a go-to medication for patients with recalcitrant cystic acne. It can reduce pore size and also reduce sebum production in your skin, making it less oily; and in turn, dryer. Accutane can be used to control acne, but patients receiving the medication should be carefully monitored. In terms of skincare, always wear an appropriate sunscreen and reduce direct sun exposure. In my patients, I recommend a good ceramide moisturizer such as Elevase whenever they are on Accutane. This will keep the skin hydrated and reduce the oiliness of the skin that is associated with oil-based moisturizers.

The medicine is dosed by your weight and if you had sides effects, the doctor is likely trying to keep the dose low even though it sounds like you could take a higher dose. But, although the course will take longer now that you’re on a lower dose, in the end, you should still have a great result.  The purging is not a scientific phase.  It just means you still have acne and your oil glands haven’t been shut down yet! It takes time. Best.
