How common is it for someone to not wake up from anesthesia after gastric sleeve surgery?

I know there are risks to anesthesia, I am having the Gastric Sleeve surgery, it's my first surgery ever and I am the most afraid of being put under. How common is it to not wake up or have serious complications?

There is always risk with anesthesia specially at older age or with many medical conditions but for the most part the likelihood that a patient will not wake up or die during or immediately after anesthesia is very low.

The chance of any major complications is close to zero...
It is so “uncommon”, that you should not even think about it.
Obviously any surgical procedure has risks and that is the reason, despite excellent safety profile of Sleeve Surgey, we only offer the surgey to people that qualify based on their weight and or their medical comorbidities.

Hello,  I hope you are well. Although fear of ansthesia is fairly common among patients, it is not common at all to not wake up after surgery. Prior to being cleared for surgery you are supposed to be evaluated by an a multidisciplinary team which includes cardiologist, anesthesiologist and pneumologists, among others. All of these specialists are responsible for making sure you are an adecuate candidate, not only to withstand the procedure perse, but also anesthesia. I would communicate your fears to your bariatric team so they are able to provide further reassurence and eduaction.
