Can applying Skinceuticals 1% retinol cream under eyes damage skin?

Question

Im 40 years old and have been applying 1% pure retinol cream under my eyes for a few fine lines. After approximately 3 weeks, I have redness, burning, and severe more pronounced wrinkling of the skin as well as new deep wrinkles. Its like I have lost all elasticity of my under eye skin. I can't seem to reverse the awful effects! It looks as if Ive aged 100 years, I am at a loss. Is the damage permanent and what should I do to counter the effects? Should I not have used it under my eyes ? Please advice

I would be cautious when applying a 1% retinol to the under eyes. The under eye skin is very thin and susceptible to harsh products and typically avoided with retinols. I would recommend that you stop applying it to your under eyes and focus on moisturizing to reverse the severe dryness and irritation caused by the retinol.

Retinol works great under the eyes for age prevention, but i find that a combination of lasers, botox, and microneedling improves the results.  Best, Dr. Emer.
