Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen After Liposuction?

Question

My lipo surgeon (board certified in both orthopedic and plastic surgery, extensive experience) says he has seen good results with post-surgery mild hyperbaric oxygen. These are done at a medi-spa (not his office); the chamber is pressurized with air (not oxygen) at much lower pressure than a real hyperbaric chamber, and the patient breathes pure oxygen. I think each session is ~90 minutes and costs $50 when purchased in packs. Have you seen good results? Have there been any studies?

There are no studies done with hyperbaric oxygen and healing following liposuction.  I am not sure that a lower pressure chamber would help either.

There is no strong evidence to show that the hyperbaric oxygen would be beneficial to you in the situation you describe. I would save your money for something else.

To my knowledge, there is no evidence supporting the use of hyperbaric oxygen in healing from liposuction. Yes, hyperbaric oxygen treatments aid in the body's delivery of oxygen to tissues, and can help with wound healing, especially in those with large wounds, brain injuries, etc. However, by following simple post-op instructions for liposuction, you absolutely do not need to pay for hyperbaric treatments.

There is no scientific evidence that hyperbaric oxygen is beneficial to improve liposuction recovery or results. here are no published studies on this adjunctive therapy for liposuction. It is certainly not harmful but doubtful that it is helpful over how your body would naturally heal.

There are no studies that support hyperbaric oxygen for recovery from liposuction.  Massage and proper liposuction garments will help with healing.
