Would CoolSculpting help my jawline, or do I need lipo? (Photo)

Question

I went to one in-person consultation, and the aesthetician placed the Cool Mini applicator directly under my chin and said I didn’t have enough fat. However, most of the fatty tissue is deposited laterally under my jaw, not right underneath the center of my chin itself. I’m at a healthy weight (BMI 20-21) and workout regularly, but this neck is genetic. If the applicator were placed in an overlapping laterally focused manner, could I get a good result?

Morpheus 8 is a non-invasive skin and soft tissue tightening treatment that is consistently amazing in our patients. We use the Morpheus to exact fractional induced RF into the skin or tissue in order to tighten collagen and stimulate contraction of the tissue. For acne scars, it is quite useful to build collagen in patients who have atrophic scars but is not very productive for ice-pick scars which require TCA Cross. For tissue tightening, Morpheus is ideal for the face and neck and we often combine it with CO2 laser or Ultherapy to further enhance results. Chemical peels and skin resurfacing should be done at least 5 to 7 days after, but can be performed earlier, depending on treatment severity. Avoid exfoliating skin treatments before Morpheus and expect a period of 2-4 weeks for skin contraction to set in.

Just based on your photo, I do not see that you have any significant amount of fat to be treated under your jawline.  An examination of you could possibly provide more detail to give you the best advice though.

Coolsculpting is a non-invasive procedure that targets fat cells by freezing. Once the fat cells are eliminated your chin and jawline will appear smooth and toned. Liposuction can remove dramatically greater fat than CoolSculpting procedure generally does. Coolsculpting relies on the cold to kill the fat cells but is not designed to target specific fat cells or kill all of them. In cases where a person wants to remove all or only some amount of fat in an area, liposuction is the better alternative.

If there is submental fat, and you fit the CoolSculpting applicator, this treatment is a wonderful option. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that uses a vacuum applicator to draw in skin and underlying subcutaneous fat to deliver controlled cooling. This penetrates below the skin causing permanent elimination of fat. It can be administered in a variety of areas on the body, including the jaw and chin area.

Thank you for your question. You are not alone. Many patients have the same question about the jawline. Adipose tissue in the submental region can be treated by overlapping the CoolMini applicator as well as with the use of Kybella. The CoolMini is perfect to begin the jawline augmentation by debulking the biggest area of adipose tissue. We then follow within 4-6 weeks with Kybella to taper the jawline and improve the side profile.
