Is it okay to microneedle at home in between office sessions?

I get microneedling with prp done a few times a year. I bought a package of 3 at my doctors office, and had my first one done last week. I've never microneedled at home, but back in September someone gifted me a Dr. Pen with 60 head replacements. Online, I saw a few doctors recommending it to their patients, as using .50/.25 sized needles just allows topicals like tret. to penetrate more, and this along with professional sessions maximizes results.

Hi @MarieAislinn! I would not recommend at home microneedling. I highly recommend going to a licensed professional for this treatment. The main risk associated with microneedling is infection. The tiny wounds created by the microneedles can provide a pathway for bacteria to enter the skin and cause an infection. Another potential complication is scarring. If too much tissue is damaged, it could lead to scarring. I hope this was helpful!

It is absolutely ok to microneedle at home between sessions in the office. How quickly you want to do it after an in office session may depend on how aggressively you are being treated. I would not start home needling until redness has subsided. I would ask the person doing your treatment what they prefer in terms of when they would prefer you to stop home treatment prior to a session with them but probably ok to do even the day before.
