I’ve had a deep dent on one nostril for several months now (currently 9months post op). I thought the other side was just swollen but it hasn’t gone down and even the swollen side looks better. The dent is more obvious under a light where it creates an obvious shadow. Also, tip is looking slightly droopy and pointy…. Is that just swelling? Looks different than the few months post op.
Answer: You may be close to your final result 9 months after rhinoplasty surgery. Your nose to lip angle does not appear terribly droopy on your profile appearance. I can appreciate the pointiness that you refer to and I am not certain that this is due to swelling. Insofar as your nasal creases go, if you would like to permanently fill one of the creases to match the other, microdroplet Silikon-1000 injections might be considered depending on your examination. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Answer: Rhinoplasty results To make an accurate assessment regarding the outcome of a plastic surgery procedure we always need to see a complete set of proper before and after pictures. Without before pictures, we can’t understand what was actually done or changed outcome of the procedure. If you don’t have a complete before, and after pictures, then contact your plastic surgeon and ask them to forward the pictures they took. Rhinoplasty surgery is not one operation. It is an umbrella of many different procedures that can be done in conjunction to improve the aesthetic appearance of someone’s nose. When describing rhinoplasty procedures, it’s far better if you can use the term analogy associated with each of the steps of the procedure. For example, if you had dorsal reduction, then say dorsal reduction, if you had tip definition work, then describe that. At nine months, your results are more or less final, and you should not expect any significant changes by waiting further. This is the outcome of your surgery. If you have concerns about the outcome, then I suggest you follow up with your provider and discuss your concerns with him or her. Review the results by reviewing before and after pictures where you can clearly point out what areas you are expected to improve and what areas you have concern with. If you want a proper second opinion consultation, then schedule that as an in person, second opinion consultation with other plastic surgeons in your community. For second opinion, consultations come prepared bringing with you a complete set of before, and after pictures, a copy of your operative report, and ideally a copy of your consultation note. You can get copies of your medical record by asking your previous provider to forward them. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
