hello everyone, I was scheduled for a BBL procedure and less than 30 days before my procedure the doctor then tells me I do not qualify for a BBL due to my history. I have worn a prosthetic leg for over 10 years due to a car accident. I am completely ambulatory and I am curious to why I am no longer a candidate. I told his office staff my health history from day 1 and it just confuses me how I am no longer a candidate. I just want to know if I am a better candidate for only lipo instead?
Answer: BBL in amputee? An old leg amputation should not preclude elective surgery like BBL, providing that you do not have associated medical risks. Without detailed history, labs and clinical evaluation, it would not be possible to comment further. Second opinion consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon is recommended. Good luck.

Answer: BBL candidate Dear HopelessRomantic924, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Amputee of 10 years - why am I no longer a BBL candidate? Without even posted photos very hard to advise. In general terms you should be a candidate for lipo360/BBL. Sounds like you were in contact with a clinic not a private practice of Plastic Surgery? All private practice boarded PSs usually see their pre op patients via in person or virtual consults. Then the surgeon can decide if you are an acceptable surgical candidate, NOT some post high school receptionist!

Answer: BBL I am unsure why a prosthetic leg is a contraindication for having a BBL procedure?? Serious medical conditions (ie. Diabetes, heart or lung conditions) or history of blood clots or pulmonary emboli are certainly serious concerns. History of a leg amputation due to a traumatic injury does not count unless there were other serious injuries associated with your accident. Dr. Taranow

Answer: Changing candidacy I think you should talk to the doctor and get an explanation of why you are not a candidate. It only seems fair if you went through having a consultation. Consider always having multiple in person consultations before committing to having this procedure. Delivering consistent high-quality Liposuction and fat transfer results is far more difficult than people believe. These procedures have more variation in outcome purely based on who does the procedure than any other surgery I’ve ever seen in my career. Being bored certified in plastic surgery is a good start but it’s insufficient to ascertain that someone is really good at the procedure. Liposuction is permanent and more or less irreversible and if done poorly leaves people disfigured. I cannot stress enough the importance of finding the most qualified provider for these procedures. The only way to find the most talented and experienced provider is to meet each individual one in person and during consultations ask them to show their entire collection of before and after pictures. The second variable is to read all the reviews and various physician review websites and avoid providers with any significant number of justified negative reviews. An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing at least a minimum of 50 before and after pictures of the area and procedure you’re interested in. Highly experienced providers while I have hundreds and some even thousands of before and after pictures of just the procedure and area you’re interested in. Those who cannot demonstrate an impressive collection of before and after pictures may simply black experience. I would also ask providers to show typical results and less than ideal outcomes not just the best three outcomes of their career. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
