Shedding short hairs with Telogen Effluvium? Finasteride?

Question

Male 40, Norwood 2, previously thick hair before TE, diagnosed with TE after a trenbolone steriod cycle + fasting + excessive lifting. TE has been going on for 3 months. Derm did not really examine my hair. 1 thing I've noticed since onset is that most of the hairs shed are 3 cm or less which is half the length of my overall hair. Based on what I'm reading this sounds more like Androgenic Alopecia to me, maybe both. Is finesteride a bad idea in this case as it will increase shedding?

Excellent question. I have seen similar issues of Telogen effluvium related to medications in the past, if it is your case and you stopped the medication, you will have regrowth in 6-12 months. I won't recommend any treatment at the moment and I will suggest you a 2nd opinion for a detailed evaluation of your case and scalp with a hair loss specialist. Hello and thank you for your question. It sounds to me your shedding is due to taking Trenbolone which is a steroid. Also fasting can cause hair loss. You need to get off Trenbolone and eat a proper diet then your hair loss should stabilize and start regrowing with 3-4 months. Good luck.

Trenbolone is a fairly powerful steroid. The large dose of steroid cycle treatment you received likely sped up your shedding process due to the affect of steroids on your testosterone level. Finasteride and minoxidil 1mg daily would improve your hair loss.

When you combined steroids, weight loss and stress, hair loss can occur and any genetics for balding can then be 'turned on'. When this happens, the hair loss may not return. Finiasteride might help!
