What to expect following aggressive Halo laser treatment?

Most patients will get some facial swelling after a Halo treatment, mostly in the upper cheek / lower eyelid area. We will frequently prescribe a short course of steroids for those that want to minimize this swelling. You can wear makeup the day after the treatment since there is no weeping or oozing with the Halo. The little flakes of skin that form can be visually improved with moisturizer and the makeup, so the swelling is really the only thing that gives patients any downtime. Although everyone reacts a bit differently to halo, some swelling more than others, I counsel everyone I treat to be prepared for swelling. This is usually mostly resolved in 3 days. If your provider is planning to treat close to the eyes then I’d definitely be prepared for swelling and plan to take a long weekend to relax and catch up on work or Netflix. Ibuprofen, Benadryl and an ice mask are helpful. I only want ice on the face the day of treatment after this it can inhibit the resolution of swelling. I encourage regular ibuprofen for 1-2 days and benadryl is helpful the first night. Sleep propped up in a chair or an extra pillow. I’m sure your provider has some other tips they like as well. Hope this helps.
