Abscessed second molar (#30) from failed root canal. Try to save or go for implant?

Question

I'm 24. Tooth #30 is crowned & suffers chronic abscess (~5 years) from root canal failure. I don't want to live with a dangerous infection but I'm terrified of extracting and implantation. When I was young, the primary molar on that same side had to be removed. If this tooth also goes I'm scared of what will happen to my already horrid cross bite and TMJ. Endodontist couldn't guarantee anything about re-treatment as he's skeptical of how much bone remains under the tooth.

The answer depends on how extensive of an infection you have with the tooth in question.Statistics say that you have a higher chance of a re-infection if your original root canal failed.If you compare the long term prognosis of the two procedures, going with an implantin the short term may cost you more time and money but in the long term you will have a tooth that will last you a considerably longer. The process of extraction of a tooth and implant placement are relatively straightforward.  The recovery is very easy as well.  Most of the time if there is an abscess the tooth will need to be removed and a bone graft to fill the site will be done at the same time.  This will give you a healthy foundation to place the dental implant.  This usually takes about 3-4 months of healing before the implant can be placed.  Once you have an integrated implant, it should last your entire life as long as you go for your regular checks and cleanings.

a tooth with root canal, that presents infection, always at the end will be giving problems,so the best solution is to extract that tooth, and wait until the area is healed, 3 months at least later, just place an implant.and your problem will be solved.
