Crowns been in for 2 weeks already bite adjusted with tekscan all margins look good no xtra cement no infection on xray. Lite grinder but never had problems before . Now bad jaw pain and nerves flare up after eating something hot and sensitive slightly to cold
Answer: TekScan, Bite and hot and cold sensitivity Multiple issues, most common cause of sensitivity is recent dental work especially if deep decay. You have a pulpitis that can be reversible or irreversible. An irreversible pulpitis needs a root can. It is also possible that the bite is causing the problems. TekScan is cool technology but the sensors are far too thick for accuracy and they ignore the health of muscles ie Spasm vs Healthy vs MPD with trigger points. Most common cause of pain is muscular referral to jaw. I expect that Tekscan will have Graphene sensors before long and this tool would have awesome accuracy but would still not show health of muscles, spasm etc. Should always be used with ULF-TENS and with a doctor aware of importance of head posture. Worthless if laying down in dental chair. When Graphene nanotech is included will be amazing. I owned a first ans second generation unit and it was not as accurate as pulsing into equlibrating wax or EMG. Look forward to Tekscan technology maturing. Wide opening for prolonged times can cause brain inflamation at Trigeminal Ganglia in the brain but also affects musculature. New crowns can exacerbate old problems. The finest neuromuscular dentists belong to ICCMO regardless of where they trained. Bill Dickerson of LVI recently warned on facebook TMJ/TMD site that just going to LVI doesm't mean well trained in neuromuscular. That said some excellent LVI graduates exist but most belong to ICCMO who developed science LVI based on. I strongly suggest seeing neuromuscular dentist with ULF-TENS and K& who utilized Kerr Equilibrating wax just for an eval. Just adjusting bite can cause other problems. If the crowns were on the last two teeth in back of mouth you can experience joint changes immediately after teeth are prepped up to when new crowns are cemented. The website Triggerpoints.net shows muscle patterns of Myofascial pain. Address the problem now as it can get much worse. The web reference is patients who have had neuromuscular treatment.

Answer: Jaw pain Hi:In my experience with clencher and grinders, after any dental work even a simple filling, more clenching and grinding is activated for the period 2-4 weeks. Wearing a nightguard is one way of controlling this process.Best,Dr. Maddahi
