Hello so I got 1 full syringe injection of lip fillers about over a year ago. On the bottom of my lip 3 bumps appeared on my lips which I contacted her about and she said it was a venous lake that probably occured I sent a pic and she just never answered back. Is this something that can just happen and no one’s fault. Or should she have offered to fix this. The pics are a bit hard to see it you can sort of see them.
Answer: Concerns about Lip Filler complications Bumps that appear after lip filler injections can be due to several reasons, including: 1. **Venous Lakes**: These are small, dark blue to purple, well-defined, soft, compressible papules caused by dilated venules. They are usually harmless but can be cosmetically concerning. 2. **Granulomas**: These are small nodules that can form as a reaction to the filler material. 3. **Lumps or Nodules**: Sometimes, filler can clump together or be unevenly distributed, causing lumps or nodules. 4. **Infection or Inflammation**: Although less common, infections or inflammatory reactions can occur after injections. Given that the bumps have persisted for over a year, it would be prudent to have them evaluated by a healthcare professional. Here are some steps you might consider: 1. **Consult a Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon**: They can provide a thorough examination and give you a definitive diagnosis. They may recommend treatments such as hyaluronidase (for hyaluronic acid fillers) to dissolve the filler if it is causing the issue, or other treatments if it is a venous lake or granuloma. 2. **Follow-Up with Your Esthetician**: If you haven't already, try to follow up again with your esthetician. They should be informed about the complications and might offer a solution or refer you to a specialist. 3. **Document Everything**: Keep a record of all communications with your esthetician and take clear photos of the bumps. This can be useful if you need to seek further medical advice or if there are any disputes. 4. **Seek a Second Opinion**: If you are not satisfied with the response from your esthetician, seeking a second opinion from another professional is always a good idea. It's important to address this concern to ensure there are no underlying issues and to achieve the best possible cosmetic outcome.

Answer: Venous lake A venous lake is a dilated vessel and is not dangerous. This development is not the fault of your injector and does it indicate anything was done incorrectly. These can often be treated successfully with lasers.

Answer: Filler The venous lakes, as you called them, can happen when any kind of trauma and your injector is not able to "fix" them. However, they are benign and cover easily with lipstick, Removal requires excision.

Answer: Nodules and bumps can occur with any injectable filler. And sometimes nodules or bumps represents scar tissue from temporary gel fillers. In that regard they may not go away. If they feel firm, it may be worth trying the dissolving enzyme or possibly a dilute steroid injection. Wishing you well moving forward. Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Answer: Fillers can accentuate pre-existing conditions and is nobody's fault. If the 1st photo is your preop photo then the bumps were there prior to the injection of fillers and are just accentuated when fillers push out things that are close to the surface. It probably is a small venous lake and possible fibroma that just needs a little zapping with the electrofulguration handpiece under local to prevent them from slowly growing in the future. Cost is not that much and is probably your best option for roughly $250-350. It may need a second zap a month or 2 later for best results.
