Is it safe for the eyes to apply tretinoin cream around the orbital bone (in lieu of an eye wrinkle cream)?

I would like to use tretinoin .05% in lieu of a eye wrinkle cream. Is it safe for my eyes to apply the tretinoin cream around the orbital bone? I read that the warmth of the eyes can draw the cream toward it & I wasn’t sure if this could damage the eyes. If its safe, any advice on how to safely and effectively apply it around eyes is appreciated.
