The most important question is why you had a d-dimer measured before a tummy tuck. The hematologist should be evaluating the results of this test and communicating your risk to the plastic surgeon.
Dear cricket,, D dimer test, which is a measurement of degradation of blood clots, is not a common test before surgery unless you are a risk for blood clots or had history of blood clots. Was there a reason for your surgeon to obtain that test ? Did you discuss the test result with your surgeon ? Your result is border line elevated. That can occure after trauma or use of estrogens or can be a lab error. You can repeat the test and if it is still elevated consult with a hematologis. You might need to be treated with blood thinner like Lovenox. Always, consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive. Best of luck, Dr Widder
