Hi! I am unhappy with my chin projection, I feel like my chin makes my face look a bit flat, especially from the side. Instead of filler, I would like a more permanent solution like a chin implant. However, I am not sure if my mentolabial fold is too deep for me to be a good candidate. Would I be a good candidate for a chin implant and if not, can anyone recommend other permanent solutions? Thanks!

Answer: Chin augmentation candidate It does appear that based on your photos, you could benefit from further projection of your chin. Indeed, the most effective way to grant this, and the most permanent way, is for a chin implant to be carefully placed to correct your anatomical deficiency. As a board certified plastic surgeon who performs these surgeries on a regular basis, I prefer using the intra-oral technique so that there are no visible scars on the outside of your chin. While you are under twilight sedation, a very small incision is made inside your mouth, and the implant carefully inserted through this incision. In addition to not having any visible scars, this approach also disallows for the implant to settle and become ptotic (sagging) over the years, preventing making its way down toward a lower-placed incision if the cut were made on the outside or your skin, under the chin itself. It’s a very easy recovery as recoveries go, only a few days, and I would not qualify it as painful. I recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon in person for a physical assessment and to discuss your goals and expectations to determine if a chin augmentation is right for you.

Answer: Chin implant or genioplasty There is no doubt that chin augmentation will improve your facial balance, in particular profile. Chin augmentation with implant or genioplasty should be considered. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with good reputation in facial implants, is recommended. Good luck.
